..That joke with the priest that said "do as I say, not as I do"?
(Wiktionary says: This order first appeared in John Selden's Table-Talk (c. 1654): "Preachers say, 'Do as I say, not as I do.'")
I watch V, he is learning, every second of his life.
He is learning how this world works, how his body works, how interaction works.
Does he learn from what I say?
A bit, when I insist, I explain and I plead.
But the biggest part from his learning he does by watching me.
He learns from what I do.
I believe we are all like this naturally - but we the grown-ups seem to have learned to only (mostly) believe the words and not the actions of people around us.
In marketing school I even learned that people believe it more if they see something written - so I'd better write all kinds of convincing "facts" (read: lies) on my website - in order for people to buy what I sell..
Of course, this opens the door for everybody to write whatever they think fit - and declare it "truth"..
Oopsy... today I was not able to make any video.
I was going to this morning but I couldn't.
I was going to make it after we came from the market but my son had a particularly challenging day today and he is still like totally glued to me.
He tends to do that when he does not like something - and lately he definitively does not like to go to the market..
I wish I could spare him that but it is not in the cards at the moment..
So he also decided to not let me do anything else today - and he is telling it quite loud and clear at the moment from my lap while I write:-) If I would try to make a vid I know it could get frustrating for both of us in such a moment, so I will not attempt it:-)
It's almost here!!!
When I proposed an April SHINE challenge that would bring us from the Winter Slumber to the Sunny Summer I had no idea that the winter will still be lounging in my garden!
But still, it is. It is snowing today as we speak and write and read..:-)
Thus I believe a Shining Challenge is totally in order. It starts in 3 days, on April 1st (no fools here, right?), and for most of us it will be right after we had delighted in all those Easter chocolate rabbits and eggs:-)
I am sure most of you can relate..:-)
.. (if not, much muchos muchos respect for you!!)
I invite you to become friends with yourself. If you are already, even better, think of how you can make this friendship even sweeter. Think, how would you treat a loved one if she/he would come to visit for only 30! Days?
I invite you to commit to yourself. From one Shining Mama to other Shining Mama's (and we have a few Shining Papa's amongst us, too!!) - I am honored that you go along with me on this journey and I applaud you for being willing to take the time for yourself.
On november 2nd 2012 I had the amazing privilege of talking to one of the most respected and acclaimed raw food authors and speakers, David Wolfe.
He came to The Netherlands to launch the Dutch version of Eating for Beauty and I was overjoyed when he kindly agreed to answer a few questions for me.
We talked about how (breastfeeding mothers) can empower themselves. About what the best way is for children to learn about food. About his own start in the Raws, The SuperHerbs and The SuperFoods
I went there with my son (at the time 3 and a half) and I was a bit anxious as to how the interview would go, whether my son would want to "cooperate". A few days in advance I told him about my excitement and I showed him pictures with David Wolfe, telling my son that we would soon go to meet David.
The D(avid)day came and my son was excited to play with David Wolfe..:-)
I took a lot of toys for me, food and everything we would need, plus a recorder and off we went with the train.. Or so I thought:-) In place of a trip of 2 hours we ended up doing more than 3 hours and a half on the way and were 3 minutes late to our appointment with David. Exhausted from our long and adventurous trip, my son just went to sleep in my arms and made almost no sound through out the whole interview!:-)
David was so gracious to answer also some personal questions and it was awesome to meet him. He is such a beautiful person and just being in his presence is magic.
It was my first interview ever and what a blast start!
So I decided that, instead of a summit (like I announced earlier) , I will do a series of interviews, free for everyone to listen to, for as long as possible.
So here is to you, lovely mothers, I give you:... (applause...) ...David Wolfe.
So I have decided!
In the beginning was Greenz 4 Momz about the green juices and smoothies and the great things that come from drinking green. But little by little it became a symbol for a lot of other things, too.
It is about giving the green moms the thumbs up: green for green moms! Moms can be here who they are. I am so happy to keep the sacred space for mothers and mothers to be.
It's about giving moms the green stuff via my writing and videos. It's about growing and grounding and blossoming and being in the sun.
It's about me being of service.
It's about the green stuff and why we need it. It is what makes us grow. Inside and outside. It is liquid sunshine that makes us glow.
It's about motherhood. It's about green motherhood, natural mama. It's about being so close to the nature as it possible is on the Earth right now.
It's about Mother Earth. It's about what she gives us and what I am grateful for.
I know, I know, you will say that I should not be in love with a THING:-)
But this is my friend, I tell you. My friend Hurom, the slow juicer, makes the best green juice ever.
Our relationship started on the last day of 2011. I had a friend Phillips that was more than 10 years old and he still did a good but.. I needed to go to "the next level" with my juice. After seeing a lot of Hurom enthusiasts on the internet, I just went and got myself this present. I immediately got into trouble because in just two hours I managed to squeeze everything I could squeeze in my house:-) I had to go for an evening-emergency-last-minute-shopping and was not so glad to navigate between all this let's-go-to-2012 explosions, with my 3 years old. But the alternative was to have to wait with squeezing until maybe 2 or 3 January.. Do you know how many minutes is that?? I just couldn't wait so long.
So once again home I made like 4 litters of different colors juice and 2 liters of green juice and my New Year guests had to drink and drink (and also you-guess-what) and admire my new found friend all night long.. Lucky them right?:-)
A month ago I discovered a new interesting technique the made my addiction to liquid GREEN even more addictive:-) Until then I was just juicing and drinking, now I had this brilliant idea to start blending the thick green juice! It had some pulp in it anyway, why not use that and make like a smooooothiieee:-) And SMOOTHIE it gets! It is just heaven on the tong and I enjoy it even more. Smoooth, baby..
And if you did not get amazed yet, today I discovered the next best thing:-) (I am really wondering how much more good things I can discover). Today I took the pulp left by the Hurom and I squeezed it once again. It was dry but now it's dryer and I got almost half a liter juice out of it!!! Blended that with chlorella, matcha and hemp protein - and OMG!!!! Sooooooo nice and creamy and green and great!
Now I am considering emptying the compost and squeeze that, too...... Or perhaps not... No, maybe not.
Today I am again, even more in love with my Hurom. This relationship is getting better and better:-)
My blog starts with a brilliant idea of brilliant Tera. For (at least) 30 days I will write 10 things I love about myself and about the world. It is an exercise in gratitude which I want to share with you.
