hot & cold showers While I wait for the time when I will have a reverse osmosis water shower installed in our home (hopefully not long now), I enjoy from time to time this simple reviving tip.. I kinda cheat a bit as I do not make the cold water too cold, more often than not. But here it is to improving my practice! :-) probiotic lemonade This is a recipe I learned and experimented with recently, as I was looking ways to use my probiotic home-made-raw-almond-yogurt-whey..:-) If you are interested in making the home-made-raw-almond-yogurt, just click on the link:-) After making the yogurt I let it get yogurty for 8-24 hours and as we eat the yogurty part of it, I am left with the raw almond yogurt whey. As it is fermented, I usually do not put it in my green smoothies unless I know I will drink the result soon after. I tried a few times a fermented green smoothie and... hmmmm.. what can I say... So not wanting to throw the whey away as I would not put it in the smoothie, I tried drinking it a few times but it's just not my thing.. (could be yours, it' really healthy:-) ) aromatic stones douche This tip is based on an old Indian way to detox the nose and lungs and air passages from a cold or worse. It is also a good way to clean up your nose if you suffer from allergies or sinusitis. You will need some small stones and peebles. It helps a lot if you have them in the house :-) I know some who collect them and in my parents house we have A LOT :-) (imagine: many kilos). If you do not have them in house, any kind of peebles will do. Next time you are out and around look for them outside. Even better, collecting them from a river or the sea can be a part of a pleasant meditative ritual. a farmer's market day As it was wednesday today, we went to the farmer's (organic ) market in The Hague, a nearby town. When I go to the market I buy organic food for a week, as this market is a weekly happening and it allows me to buy the basic fresh things we need at a lower price than a organic supermarket would provide. Or actually, over the last two years I go to this market I realized that what I buy at the market, organic, fresh and from the producers (thus helping out the organic agriculture) is less expensive than even a usual supermarket would have it. And extremely more healthy at that. coconut oil - with thanks to Marni Wasserman for the picture I love natural virgin organic oils! There is something about these oils that gives me a great feeling - and the abundance of the great vegetable oils in our lives and their possible uses is amazing. I am going to talk a few times about oils in the empowering tips, today only one simple possible addition to your daily I-take-care-of-myself routine: oil pulling. My favorite oil by far is coconut oil at the moment. I also love the olive oil and the hemp oil as they are a both easy to use for oil pulling and take less time to get going:-) apple Juices are amazing and today I am going to talk about a few combinations and what they are good for. As I already said in my article about green smoothies vs. green juices I am a slow juicer lover. But I also do not want to encourage consumerism so I would like to invite you to use whatever you have, be it a centrifuge :-) I remember my parents used to have an old one when we (my brother and I) were children and it was sounding like a factory and a train together. It was making good juice from what I can remember but you might have a more silent variant:-) Drink the juices alone, not together with food. Leave 1/2 before and 1/2 after with no food - except if you eat the same stuff you put in your juice:-) But if you leave it alone it will integrate better and sooner in your body. lamb's lettuce salad with grilled salmon Today a - like they say in Dutch - short and powerful empowering tip. As usual, we are talking organic. If you want to eat something light and simple but full with great ingredients for your body, try a lettuce lamb's salad. This one in the picture is one from MarksDailyApple and I am also going to give them the credit for it :-) I made this kind of salad quite often with all kinds of organic fish and I love lamb's lettuce a lot (today's smoothie was with it as greens) because of it's texture, really buttery and soft. Also, I usually do not use the cabbage although it is a beautiful color combination - as the combination with cabbage has some unpleasant effects for me.. You can use the same color effect with red salad leaves, like "giant red mustard leaves" or "lettuce red coral" or others.. Today another controversial subject, right along with the "water" one from a few days ago: body odors and how to deal with them as naturally as possible. First, I will tell you a story. in 2006 I went to this 2 weeks yoga retreat in the French Pyrenees. We did a lot of meditation, a lot lot of yoga (duuh!), we were the whole time in nature and worked in the woods and we lived in a huge hand-made of wood house. We had only organic vegetarian meals and we did a 7 day cleanse that involved a yogic colon cleanse, netti (I will soon talk about the netti), a few days of silence, no tv, news or other stuff, we also had no mobiles for a few days and we did a strict yogic program. It was just us (around 20 people), the mountain, the yoga and millions of pieces of "stuff" coming up and exploding in us and around us in close proximity :-)) Some people, especially men, had withdrawal symptoms from meat - especially in the beginning there was a lot of moaning about that.. And it might seem like a short retreat but I can tell you, after a day we were "in" and with all the "stuff "coming up some of us felt like it was a year:-) Me, included. I especially had issues with the long sitting meditations, and not being able to move. But, boy, was I shining after that retreat! I was going to write something else today. I had these big plans and I was going to push myself to go through with them so that I can offer you some empowering tip for today. But I realized that the big tip I want to write here for today is that is very useful to start listening to your body. As today goes on, I have put everything aside just to do that. Awareness of what is going on with our body - even if you are a man - and I mean not only what our body wants to eat but also how our body wants to be dressed today.. Maybe try today to just listen to your body and do - for once - mostly what you body wants. I posted this picture here because I feel that we kinda know the same things about our own body. This book was wildly sold and made millions of $ and created a craze because the relationship between men and women is so precious. And I feel our relationship with our body is quite the same but not so many of us think about it. Today, an invitation to listen to your body. Just sit and listen, ask it a question and maybe write it a letter (I did). Or write the conversation you'll have. I know I will, just after I publish today's prompts. |
