Nourishing green smoothie - day 18/30

19/4/2013

Picture
Green smoothie today
  • purslane 150g;
  • 2 lemons peeled and halved
  • 1 big apple with peel and core - cut in small pieces;
  • 1/2 cucumber - cut in smaller pieces - with peel (because it is organic, otherwise please peel it deep);
  • water to fill - loved and filtered;

It had a lot of foam as you see in the picture - and I do not really mind most of the time, if the smoothie is smoothly smoothed (:-P)..

The foam settles down after a while and I drink it then.
I used to love to eat the foam some years ago - but then I discovered that it was because I actually wanted more smoothie and my body was screaming for the last drops of it.. I then accepted this and if I felt like it, I just made more smoothie or juice. And just like that disappeared my taste for foam.

In my opinion, it is not bad to eat the foam, as some people would teach. It is just a lot of air and eating air is not really the "way to go" if you want a healthy digestion.. (so if you feel like you could be sensitive to this, eliminate the foam with a spoon).. What I also do, is put a lid on the jar, let it settle a bit and than shake it, baby:-)

Something else you can do to eliminate the foam is using more of the "soluble fruit" in your smoothie - as the leaves are the ones who produce the foam.
For the sake of the demonstration, blend some leaves with only water and you will see what I mean.
The more fruit like bananas and apples and pear, mango, avocado and such, the less foam and the more "correct" your smoothie will be.
Thus, you can "repair" your foamy smoothie by adding a banana or more, or whatever you have that would "dissolve" and blend better. Blueberries and strawberries are also good examples.

Enjoy!
