green smoothie or green juice, that is the question :-) Green smoothie or green juice, that is the question. This is a classic one and by no means an already debated and done with question. 1. What is the difference between green smoothies and green juices? and 2. what to best use? I have read an listened extensively to everything I could find on the subject and I could not find a good "fit for all" answer for number 2. So I will first answer to number 1 and at the end I will also give you my "call" on number 2. :-) Vegetarian (you can make it even vegan) milk is really delicious, healthy and nourishing. (For Dutch friends: voor een NL versie van dit artikel click alsjeblieft op: Haagse BV groep) Because you do not use any "real" milk, is the vegetarian variant "lactose free" and thus very good for the ones who are allergic to (cow) milk or to lactose (the "sugar" in the milk). This veg variant also contains really healthy, body friendly "fats" for you. As always, please use organic stuff to make it. (..and I had to abruptly stop here as my telepathic son V. asked me for the first time in our life for "chocolate milk").. My invitation for you is to experiment with materials and to use in the beginning whatever you have in the house (and that goes also for the blender..:-) ). You can make vegetarian/vegan milk from:
empowering tips - green smoothies part 2 Today I felt that I should write some more things about my beloved green smoothies. I got a lot of questions about "part 1" (thusly named today) and as my green smoothies e-book is "coming out" only in May, I thought this is a good opportunity to answer some of the questions and add some more info. Q: do I have to rotate everything I use in my smoothie or just the leafy greens? A: Only the leafy greens. To say that shortly and simply (it has science behind it, which I've read, but I am going to explain it very simply here) it is because if our body gets too much of one leafy green kind, it develops a kind of reaction to it and starts seeing it as poison. If you find a recipe that works for you and for as long as you love it, use that and rotate all the greens so that you eat/drink maximum 2-3 days the same thing. There are amazingly many leafy greens to check out there, even if you buy only the seasonal ones. In my recipes I use a lot of spinach and purslane and lettuce at the moment - and I rotate them per week. You can also do that, depending on what you find to buy. I also recommend having at least one, better more than one, raw green powders in the kitchen, with as much chlorophyl as possible. You can maybe make your favorite fruit smoothie and add only a green powder to it. Or you can also variate your green smoothie by making a green milk. It's not so fresh and for me it feels less amazing after I drink it in the morning but it's possible and maybe delicious once in a while. Honey Used to hate it in my childhood (don't ask me why!!) and now I totally love it. I love all the aromas, the colors, the texture of Mama Honey. I only buy organic and raw and please pay attention to that cause most honey in the supermarket is not raw anymore. And Mama Honey that has been heated (for whatever reason, to pour it or to make it more beautiful, to controlled crystalize it or to change it's color..) is not so good for you anymore. Old Ayurveda already said that and I was surprised to read about it in my first Ayurvedic book. Now the science is also backing this up and I kinda had withdraw reactions from my old tea with lemon and honey for a long time.. I know , I know, the heated non-organic variant is everywhere - and the original honey is much more expensive but yeah, maybe ask yourself why that might be? When the only thing they'd had to do it put it in jar and sell it? Could it be that they put something else in the honey to make it cheaper? I'm just sayin'.. fresh fruit and leafy greens Try a 24 hours detox mini-feast with only natural, organic and not processed foods of any sort, no sugar, no coffee, no processed teas. Do this between 18.00 the first evening and 18.00 the next evening. Do this in a day without very much activity and when you maybe can stay at home or even better, in an open space in nature.. Please have a toilet on close distance as you would probably go to the toilet more:-) Begin the first evening: stop eating after 18.00 hours. You can drink lots of water, fresh juices or smoothies and go on a no-caffeine policy (no to black or green tea or coffee, yes to herbs teas for example). Eat the next day only vegetables, salads and fruit as breakfast - or a big green smoothie! Drink lots and lots of loved and filtered (or even better, ideas here) water, you can try it with lemon and even honey if you wanna, or go the whole way and mix it with chlorella and other green stuff.. Lady Lemon Like I said last time, Lady Lemon is a good friend of mine. As always, I am talking organic:-) Me and Lady Lemon do a lot of pleasant things together and I am going to talk about a few right now: 1. dry peel: What do I do with all that peel (you know, from the lemons that I use for the smoothies..)..? I dry it - in the summer in the sun (ehhhmmmm last summer we had some warm days..) or in the dehydrator. Or, if you are not really into raw food, you can also put it shortly in the oven. After it's dried, I put it through the kitchen robot or the blender (depending on how much it is) and I store it in a glass jar. I use it in smoothies, in the ice and lemonade in the summer and in raw or not raw cakes. I also eat from it sometimes, it's really perfumed and yummy. I also use it in my hand soap making and in soft hand made scrubs. You can even use a bit of lemon dust in your vacuum cleaner where the air gets out - and will have a wonderfully perfumed house. (.. that is, if you like the smell of lemon peel, I assume if you are still reading that you do).. april's shine: day 5, dry brushing Today I was inspired to talk to you about dry brushing. I use a big douche brush, with natural powerful hairs (it has to brush, not caress:-D) and with a long handle (that's how you get to some places, even if you did not go to yoga for a while..). I put a few drops of lavender essential oil (use whatever you fancy) on one of the hands (left in my case) and I first brush my palm until the oil dissolves in and between the hairs of the brush. With that, I brush my whole body (naked, please do not attempt this fully clothed). I begin with the hand on both sides, going in the direction of the heart. After my arms, I do the torso - also in the direction of the heart. I do the front first and than the back. I end it with the legs, from the toes up and then the buttocks:-) spring water Today, about water. A short one, to compensate to the huge one yesterday (I am not even sure you had the time to read the material for yesterday, did you? Please let me know!). Water - we need it so so much. Me, I love to swim in it, I love the rain and the snow and I have to live near a bog one.. I also need to "take it" internally - aka drinking:-) we all do, right? I know I will swear in some people's churches saying this but the tap water?? No good. It is full with - literally - shit, excuse my French.
green smoothie with mint
So here is a bit of an introduction to the green smoothies:-) I will soon have a e-book ready and I will let you know but until then, a few things to give you a start. We do not eat enough greens. People forgot to eat greens. we have no time any more for greens. We do not eat enough of that color, period. (and no, I do not refer to mold!) Our brothers the chimpanzees eat something between 70% and 90% greens. No, they do not eat bananas. They do that in the cartoons:-) But when specialists looked at what they normally, in their environment, eat, it's mostly leaves. They chew on leaves most of the day. While I do not entirely know if Darwin was right to say that we "come from" monkeys (haha, don;t ask, otherwise this lil article will be about UFO's..:-) ), what I believe from what science says is that the chimps are as closely to our DNA as it gets. lovely lemons Today's love: lemons. You can use lemons in many many ways for your health. They are perfumed, beautiful, nice to touch. you can even play with them.. Did you ever play catch with your child with lemons? the great thing about it is that they are not easily offended because their thick skin (especially if they are not very very ripe) and when rolling on the ground they go unexpected directions..:-) Today's tip is about hydrating and cleansing, as well and about making your body more alkaline, something we should all de more:-) |
